It felt like change was breaking through. The Lost Childhoods exhibition is a platform for 100+ partners to share their stories, artwork, ideas, projects, volunteer opportunities, and events. This argument became one of the foundations of The Participatory Museum. Even a smash hit program is hard to scale up in this model.

So the Community Science Workshop model is to put a drop-in, FREE community science center in a place that is walkable to kids'' lives and schools. Most Workshops also run a wide range of additional programs - supplemental school day programs, afterschool programs, mobile units that go to housing projects. We''re not going to do that.

The tool of choice has changed from IRC or Meebo to Twitter and the use of hashtags. At this conference in 2005, the backchannel was projected on the screen behind the speaker. To make this model work, there was another IRC backchannel that streamed audio from the conference and someone did the equivalent of live tweeting.
