In my experience, innovation is about flexibility, capacity, and collaborative relationships. Guard staff who are willing to let an artist step between two panes of glass to perform. That said, the fact that we work with contemporary artists can also create a lot of stress in our institutional systems.

In particular, Fred Wilson's Mining the Museum at the Maryland Historical Society was lauded as a transformative experience--both for visitors and for museum practitioners. We also work with groups like Oxfam and their Make Trade Fair Campaign , Doctors without Borders , the ACLU , Global Exchange and this summer will be collaborating with Witness , Greenpeace , the NRDC and others. I took a few groups out on Warped Tour in the summer of 2002 as an experiment, and things have just sort of grown since.
