Thinking Differently in 2008

SocialFish

Everyone is posting New Year's resolutions, and learnings from 2007, but I have decided to be true to myself (hehehe) and do something different for my first post of 2008. To think bigger than I am, bigger than my association is. Which is actually the whole theme of this post. Jnott tagged me, a while back, to take part in the Think Different challenge.

Got Your Ears On? How to Listen to Your Audience Using Social Media

NTEN

For associations and non-profits are wondering how to get in the game -- or how to figure out whether they should -- listening is the place to start. Maddie Grant and Lindy Dreyer, SocialFish, LLC. Social media is all the buzz these days. While it's relatively easy to dabble in social media, listening is the critical component in developing a social media strategy that is right for both your audience and your objectives. What does listening mean?

Blogs and associations

SocialFish

I'm really tired today, and feeling a bit sick, so I hope I am not missing the point(s) entirely, but I was reading bmart's post about blogs tied to association magazines, and Dennis McDonald's response , and I am not sure I get it. If an association publishes a magazine less than twice per month, it will probably run out of blog content in the interim if it is only repurposing magazine articles for the blog. Thanks Ben, Lisa and Matt, for your comments on my last post about blogs and associations. There were several comments in which people thought there should be more posts about its associated (natch) association, ASAE and the Center, and also, perhaps, a separate ASAE blog (given the general consensus that Acronym seemed very tied in to the Associations Now magazine, not least because of Scott Briscoe and Lisa Junker being major contributors/editors etc to both).

Traditional Strategic Planning Sucks part 1

Anyone notice that in this month's Journal of Association Leadership, there's a long article about traditional strategic planning - so traditional that, no offense to the authors, but I literally had to look at the cover to check I wasn't reading an old copy.
