On the heels of GivingTuesday (yesterday), we have another major national day today, May 6th, honoring nurses and by extension--other healthcare workers. At the turn of the century, Florence Nightingale is credited with founding modern nursing. She was an advocate of strict hand washing and other practices--and is credited with reducing the death rate among wounded soldiers (Crimean War) from some 40% to 2%.
