It easy - if you know how to subscribe via RSS. A study done by Yahoo in October claims that only 12% of internet users know what RSS is, and only 4% are actively using it. What is RSS? RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication. The RSS information from a site is known as its feed. But its REALLY easy.

One metric I track on our Blog is RSS or eMail subscribers. House File Growth. Only 15% of the non-profits we talked to were measuring house file growth (or sometimes know as email list growth) based on their social media involvement. You should become one so you can get new content delivered weekly.

It has shortcuts for all of your servers, has nice drag and drop for moving files around, allows you to do all sorts of remote actions on files, etc. No, it’s not slick, but Filezilla does the job nicely. It handles FTP, SFTP and FTP over SSL/TLS. I use it all the time, and I really like it.

Dokuwiki is different in a number of ways, most primarily in that it is one of the wiki systems that stores things in files, not databases. It’s a great replacement for text or word processing files. I’ve always liked wikis, and I have used MediaWiki a lot in the past, and I do like it.

Yesterday, they published the list of organizations that have lost their exemption from paying income tax due to failure to file required reports in 2007, 2008, and 2009. The National Center for Charitable Statistics notes that 90 percent of these organizations have never filed any kind of return. This is great news.

First, they are putting the wraps on a new version, and there are some interesting projects happening, like integrating voter files, phone banking , and my favorite, case management. Some really interesting things are brewing with CiviCRM. I’m excited to see what community-driven development can do! It looks interesting.

Changing one file (/etc/apt/sources.list) and running a few commands, should do the trick. But, the computers are networked, so it would seem – there must be some easy way, right? Debian comes to the rescue.

All importing requires now is just going to the Wordpress import tool and specifying the file. Wordpress now uses dashes instead of underscores, so that’s something you don’t have to worry about. That’s all. You don’t have to worry about using mod_rewrite at all. Getting the varied blogrolls and badges, etc.

I love it because it’s really easy to set up and back up (it’s all files, not in a database,) and it’s has draft autosaves (yay!). I have become a complete devotee of Dokuwiki , which I use locally on my laptop, for my to do lists, notes, etc. And I contribute to varied other wikis, which are on varied other wiki platforms.

Opening whatever you throw at it: say “open&# , find a file, and Excel will at least try to open it. OOo Calc will open your txt files in OOo Writer no matter what they contain. but it won’t talk to mailmerge files. .) * Formulas: it is much, much more straightforward to compose compound functions in MS Excel.

Since my desktop computer at work is set up to scan all downloaded files, every file is checked. Marnie Webb introduced the nptech tag to help aggregate nonprofit technology content.

One of my personal resolutions for 2006 is to be less sloppy with tagging and organize my rss feeds. You have to save the "OPML" file from program onto your hardrive and then upload/import it into the other. Right-click on it and choose "Save Target As" to save the file to your computer.

I admit it, I have a serious RSS habit. Thanks to Fever , a brand new RSS feed reader from web guru Shaun Inman , it’s okay. They shouldn’t be read and organized like a standard inbox handles email messages, which is the way most readers treat RSS feeds. Fever is anything but linear.

I converted the file back into an mp3 in iTunes (Garageband exports it as an AIFF file into iTunes) and uploaded it to Gcast. I know that many people don't know how to subscribe using RSS feeds and/or don't have an mp3 player. I edited the interview in GarageBand and exported it back into my iTunes.
