This is a continual process of bonding within preexisting groups and bridging between groups and individuals who might not usually interact.

We went through a dramatic financial turnaround and redefined our relationship with our community through a series of experimental participatory projects and new programmatic approaches. Instead of writing a post and soliciting comments (my typical approach), I used an online polling tool to create a simple game where you could read short provocations about questionable revenue sources and give each source an ethical thumbs-up or down. but it taught me even more about online interaction. 3,125 people viewed the game.

This museum was unusual in that the lobby area had a high concentration of pop art meant to appeal to a wide audience. There was even a small interactive space outside the exhibition set up to look like a traditional photo studio, with backgrounds and props, so you could make your own 1920s-style portrait. And yet these bar games have something that few museum adult programs offer: complete focus on the audience/participants, not the leader/speaker. I learned to appreciate the audience reach of a big institution while vastly preferring the diversity of work and lack of bureaucracy of a small one. Six months in, the Museum committed to creating a highly interactive, separate ticket "you be the spy" experience (now open and named Operation Spy). I hope this is helpful for someone.
