Last week at the Convio Summit, discussions of how to get started with mobile abounded. Despite this, an NTEN survey last year revealed that only 16% of orgs will have invested in a mobile version of their website in 2011, whereas 90% will have an email and social media strategy, and 19% will develop apps. At Convio Summit, our Art Director, Michael Chang, and I led the Mobile Homepage Design Slam session where we developed some mobile homepage layouts on the fly for audience volunteers. A great starting point for that conversation is filling in this mad-lib: "At [org name] we [verb phrase] so that [constituent group] can [verb phrase].".

Before I started working for Convio, I thought I was comfortable with Conga Composer. ” Now you can run a Conga Composer process as if it were off a single record, but instead it’s operating off org-wide reports. It’s what I used at Fight Colorectal Cancer to generate our acknowledgement letters out of Common Ground.

Org-wide email address in workflow rules: Love this. Now I’ll be able to set an org-wide email as the “from&# address to avoid confusion when these emails go out. As far as development changes go, I can’t wait to see what the folks at Convio can do for Common Ground with this update. But good nonetheless.

Everyone from the “ABC Foundation” who has an “abcfoundation.org” email address is able to share information and it’s private from anyone outside the org. Orgs that are split across teams or geographically could find that Chatter is the virtual water cooler they need.

Tim says MySpace is not good for fundraising, although we have seen some examples of orgs running successful fundraising campaigns, such as Dollars for Darfur. Regardless, very few orgs (though some) have raised real cash via the Causes app. But 36% discovered them through a friend’s profile. On YouTube : everyone loves video.

We know that lots of orgs have heard some variation of this from their bosses—“We need to get on the Twitter!” Ive seen many orgs that seem to want numbers for the sake of numbers: when they dont want to think things through clearly, rather than understand the goals and missions and then take a quantitative view.

I cringe when I see the tons of mail environmental orgs send every year. When I first founded Convio back in 1999, I believed that direct mail was doomed and that money would flow online much faster.
