Please share yours in the comments. Different activities need different levels of materials to appear "open for business." For crafting activities, putting out a small number of materials encourages people to use sparingly and respectfully. Artists work incredibly hard to produce their work. We throw those away.

For example, for the Brooklyn Museum's recent exhibition on women and pop art, Seductive Subversion , curatorial intern Rebecca Shaykin was assigned to improve (and write) Wikipedia articles on the 25 artists profiled in the show. It doesn't live on "your" page, open only for user comments and site-driven advertising.

We encouraged teams to think like artists, not researchers. Several groups created projects that were somewhere between engagement activity and research activity. My favorite example of this was the One Minute Art Project group, which rebranded a fairly standard sticker survey into a "fast, fun, free and easy" activity.

We had 2,000 t-shirts to give away, 850 balls to drop, and over a hundred artists, accordionists, salsa dancers, taiko drummers, and bubble ladies ready to go.
