Musical Instrument Museum. I had the pleasure of serving as Principal for a Day at Arizona School for the Arts (ASA) on October 27 via a program put on by HandsOn Greater Phoenix. Whether these students go on to pursue careers in the arts or not, they will be lifelong audience members, advocates, and champions of the arts.

This week, the Denver Art Museum (DAM) opened a new temporary exhibition called The Psychedelic Experience , featuring rock posters from San Francisco in the heyday of Bill Graham and electric kool-aid. It is an incredible museum experience. All of the instructions are handwritten on paper or cardboard.

How does this question play out in museums? At the 2013 American Alliance of Museums annual conference, a group of exhibition designers explored authenticity in a session called Is it Real? They explored a huge range of museum objects and grey areas of "realness." In others, he instructed one of his assistants to paint it.

I spent some time playing with this question last week at the Milwaukee Art Museum, a large general museum that is moving toward redesign of the permanent galleries. The instruction becomes a kind of social object that gives people something to talk about.

At the Sujaya School, I visited a second grade art class. The curriculum integrates the use of technology, for all aspects of instruction and managing the school. It was designed for learning – almost like an exhibits at any children’s museum in the US. They were busy drawing planets or rockets.

Our aim is to promote the psychological well-being of young children in Hong Kong through parent-child activities using media such as art, music, drama and story-telling. My first jobs were in science and children's museums. There are few instructions, and the experience seemed to be genuinely about exploring as opposed to learning information. Many of the exhibits are facilitated (there are 11 paid floor staff plus volunteers in the museum at most times). I love science centers.
