This week marks five years since the book The Participatory Museum was first released. I''ve given talks and workshops about it all over the world. I thought the pinnacle of participatory practice was an exhibit that could inspire collective visitor action without facilitation. Over 20,000 copies have been sold around the world.

This argument became one of the foundations of The Participatory Museum. Traditionally, museums and cultural organizations offer programs. If it takes a staff member 5 hours to run a screen-printing workshop, it takes her ten hours to run it twice. This is the participatory platform model.

Their vision statement is "to inspire Glasgow's citizens and visitors to lead richer and more active lives through culture and sport."
