This week marks five years since the book The Participatory Museum was first released. Weekly, I hear from someone who is putting ideas from the book into action. Across the museum field, the questions about visitor participation have gone from "what?" Over 150,000 people have accessed the free online version. and "why?"

Our museum in Santa Cruz has been slammed by those who believe participatory experiences have gone too far. We always knew that the inclusion of participatory and community-centered practices in arts institutions was controversial. To me, the backlash against participatory and community-centered experiences is not surprising.

Lisa and I have fundamentally different ideas of what a "good" museum experience is. But Lisa questioned this. People love petting zoos.".

This exhibition is a big accomplishment for us because it incorporates multiple ways we push boundaries at the MAH: we co-designed it with 100+ community partners (C3) , including artists, foster youth, and youth advocates, with youth voices driving the project from big idea to install to programming. This big idea excited us all.

City officials doubted the idea of an exhibition in the public space in a part of town they considered dangerous. They focused on one of the key events in Rotterdam history: the bombing of the city at the beginning of the Second World War.

Apple has a long history of ambivalence about its forays into education, and right now False Conviction is not getting the kind of exposure we want and need. So we had the key players.
