Business and commutes were at a standstill in the San Francisco Bay Area yesterday after an extreme fire in West Oakland put the BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) commuter train system completely out of service between San Francisco and cities in the East Bay. The three Bay Area municipalities, along with Oakland and San Francisco (who haven't placed their orders yet) have all signed-on to be part of Plug-In Bay Area, an initiative to put more plug-in hybrid vehicles on the road. In October the City of Berkeley soft ordered 40 plug-ins and in December the city of Alameda soft ordered 98.

I work with a medicine woman from Oakland. In an economic crisis it is very easy for us to all trip into scarcity thinking, to begin to hoard things, and to be living in fear of losing a job, or losing our investments, or whatever, and that is the worst place we can go. My marriage was under a lot of stress because of all of this.
