We partnered with foster youth, former foster youth, artists, and community advocates to create an exhibition that used art to spark action on issues facing foster youth. This project wove together many different participatory threads. We co-created it from start to finish with community partners. Short story: we learned a lot.

On June 4, we opened The Tech Virtual Test Zone , a new 2000 sq ft gallery at The Tech Museum of Innovation featuring exhibits on the theme of art, film, and music that were originally developed in Second Life by a community of creative amateurs. In 2009, the foundation began by harvesting almost a thousand proposals for future directions from community members through online crowd-sourcing. While there are some criticisms of its consensus-based model for information-vetting, there's no doubt of its success as a collaborative knowledge-creation project. The participatory "ask" is high--to create original content. After the conference, the wiki switched from being a participatory site to a useful record.
