Fighting Accessibity Weaseling by Amazon et al, Victory!

Beneblog: Technology Meets Society

Last September, I wrote a Beneblog post: Objecting to Accessibility Weaseling , about Amazon and other ebook reader makers trying to dodge out on making their devices accessible. So, last year, Benetech joined with the National Federation of the Blind and over twenty other groups that care about consumers with disabilities to object to an attempt by Amazon and their competitors to secure a permanent exemption from accessibility requirement for many of the ebook readers.

Lame spams of the day: Fake Amazon and PayPal receipts

Robert Weiner

They're similar to the fake Amazon HDTV receipts I wrote about in September. 2) The Amazon receipts have no details about what I purchased. 3) I got a dozen of the Amazon spams. One note on the Amazon spams -- they include payments for gift certificates in odd amounts, like $5.99, $2.99, $4.99. Text: Here's the text of one of the Amazon messages. Lame spam of the day: Amazon cancelation

Robert Weiner

This doesn't look remotely like an email from Amazon. Lame lame lame. And of course it's not for a product I ordered. Would someone really click this? Previous incarnations of this spam have led to a Canadian online pharmacy, and the hyperlinks in this one lead to a site in Canada. Sender: order-update@amazon.com. Subject: Amazon.com - Your Cancellation (147-911-9683). Text: (yes, blank lines at the top). Dear Customer, Your order has been successfully canceled.

Lame spams of the day: Amazon HDTV shipments

Robert Weiner

We have to inform yo that amazon shipped your item, and that this completes your order. Unless otherwise noted, items are sold by Amazon LLC. I got 3 versions of this today. The most amusing part is that the shipping address is a mail merge field with my email address inserted. I'm sure that will produce some funny results for people with more creative email addresses. I don't see any posts about what the links do and don't intend to find out.
