Here are some reasons that I’ve been thinking and hearing about: Nonprofits that were previously looking at Luminate are nervous about placing a bet on Blackbaud’s commitment to the Salesforce platform. Convio has built a Facebook application builder as part of their Open initiative. For organizations on the Convio platform, the Facebook application is a no-brainer and a HUGE improvement from Causes. As Michael Hoffman shares, the Convio Facebook application is really good. They have also made it easy to build.

Some highlights… Austin noted that Convio now has almost 1,300 clients, after the acquisition of GetActive earlier this year. These nonprofit clients collectively have raised more than $1 billion over the years, using tools provided by Convio and GetActive, he said. Convio has no plan to discontinue the GetActive platform.

At this point, there are two very different paths we can take: the new Nonprofit Starter pack from Salesforce, or Convio Common Ground. For example, I know that the Convio data sync we rely on won’t work with the nonprofit starter pack. Convio is currently considering options, with no timeline on a decision.

In fact, ASPCA and Conservation International received recognition during Convios Summit, in part for their successful use of widgets on social networks such as MySpace.
