Carie Lewis , who does tremendous things on Myspace and in other social media channels, gave a case study on HSUS’s video contest after the Michael Vick dogfighting incident. HSUS only got 22 entries but from a marketing perspective it was a success in part because Hulk Hogan did the promo video for the contest.

They sent out an email about a week ago to their list saying that a family foundation has agreed to provide $75,000 if the amount could be matched. “I just got this email about the matching and I want to donate.&# The more retail donors get the general mailings and emails. What I said I wanted was a way for people who are part of YouTube’s nonprofit program to be able to collect email addresses and not just donations. You will only get someone’s email if they actually donate. YouTube knows the email addresses of every registered user. YouTube doesn’t do that.

In his email he tells me that they have opened up their budgets and now I can sponsor a specific aspect of their Iowa campaign.
