However, one thing that is certain is that the ROI (Return on Investment) from e-newsletters is still relatively high compared to other Web-based channels. For me, that ROI translates into webinar attendees and speaking engagements. Consequently, so has my ROI. Twitter has taught me a valuable lesson about social media ROI.

Define metrics of measurement and create a social media ROI spreadsheet. Add e-newsletter subscribe functionality to your social networking communities. Find and monitor your Facebook Community Page, if applicable. Download Foursquare, Gowalla, Yelp, Google Latitude, Loopt, and other location-based community apps.

As with most other communities, the magic number when you no longer need to actively promote your group and it grows on its own hovers around the 5,000-member benchmark. You’re attempting to build a community on LinkedIn, not to build your Facebook or Twitter community. Subtlety is an art on the Social Web. Don’t Use News Feeds.
