The French government extended the gift of the Statue of Liberty to the United States in 1876, in recognition of our first 100 years as a nation. Let me tell you about it.

Interestingly--for good and ill--this transformative funding program coincided with a national funding crisis in the arts in the UK. This made the work more urgent, fragile.
