We got to know Ushahidi's work when it entered our legendary third NetSquared Mashup Challenge in Santa Clara, California in May of 2008. It is a $250 Wi-Fi router and mobile modem that has eight hours of battery life to keep it going when the electricity is out. I was there that year and the competition was intense.

When you make an audio mashup, your voice is part of the mix. Some allow you to write your life story. Then, that profile is saved onto an RFID card that you use to access all of the interactive exhibits in the Lab. Each exhibit greets you by name at the beginning of the experience. When you augment an image, you distort your own face.
