It has some of the same feel as the disconnected affection of people wishing you a happy birthday on Facebook, with professional reflection baked in. The whole meeting took 90 minutes and the majority of the time was spent really working, not sitting and listening. It was an evening meeting with beer and chips. Last month, I met an artist who was part of a group that created a renegade podcast tour for the Portland Art Museum. It made me recall researcher Sherry Turkle's work with "evocative objects" and her statement that "we love the objects we think with." I met lovely people in engineering, but I found the work to be too detail-oriented and microscopic in scope to satisfy me. I had a healthy second life as a slam poet, and I loved the world of artists and performance. There's not a lot of work in pinball, and I had a deep secondary interest in unschooling and free-choice learning.

The World Beach Project is managed by the Victoria and Albert Museum in London with artist-in-residence Sue Lawty. Each contributor is required to submit her name, the location of the beach, the year of the creation, a photo of the finished artwork, and a brief statement about how the work was made.
