I’ve had a lot of experience with online contests, both as a participant (winner) and working two reflection papers for the Case Foundation ‘s America’s Giving Challenge. I said that I wished contest designers would take a Hippocratic Oath to do no harm to nonprofits!

For example, accepting gifts of stock by opening a brokerage account, accepting Venmo donations, accepting cryptocurrency , and accepting donations from Alexa (Amazon devices). Since this was an experiment to test social networking, I did not send an appeal to friends and family in the way people do when they raise funds for a run or walk, or want you to vote for a particular contest. Crowdrise was a good tool, but certainly not perfect: it didn’t allow for $1 donations, as I had wished.
