I recently learned about an nonprofit organization in India dedicated to using video to help alleviate poverty and accelerate social change in the developing world. In looking at some of the project examples , I found several that focus on women's empowerment and rights in India. The organization is called Video Volunteers.

I was in India this past summer to facilitate an intensive four-day training for Packard Foundation grantees working on family-planning issues. In India, I designed the first one to celebrate the local culture: It was called “Bollywood Moment.” ” This helped shift the energy and energize.

Note from Beth: During my trip to India in February, I was introduced to a nonprofit children's book publisher in India, Pratham Books. “It was set up to fill a gap in the market for good quality, reasonably priced children’s books in a variety of Indian languages. India has a reading problem and the problem is two fold.

There’s no alternative if we want our organizations to thrive. That same son spent four months training in India when he was fresh out of college. If I love someone, I want the best for them. But, you say, I must love my mission first. Let me modify an old adage: From, “No money; no mission,” to, “No love; no money; no mission.”
