To date, 241 individuals with a cumulative net worth easily surpassing $1 trillion have made the pledge—a public commitment to give the majority of their fortunes to charity.

Think about it: according to the most recent GoFundMe Year in Help , donations through the platform have raised $25 billion since 2010. Or does asking for the tip manipulate donors into giving more because changing the default is not obvious, and appears not to be an option? 15% of $25 billion is $3.75 Are GoFundMe tips a fair charge?

It’s not surprising that after the widely publicized success of the 2010 Red Cross "Text-to-Give" campaign for Haitian earthquake relief, social change organizations wanted to hop on the text-to-donate bandwagon. That’s when it occurred to me that we could figure out a way to change the situation.

There was one interesting model was asking for pledges, and if the pledges got up to a certain amount, the content would be produced. The problem of how do you fund the actual writing of content was not really addressed, and I think that is one of the harder nuts to crack.

Just came across a deal-breaking feature-not-yet-implemented in CiviCRM and I’m wondering if it’s easily implemented in Sugar (long-term pledges to a capital campaign).
