It’s a social network that requires a lot of time and content, but more importantly, a social media manager who enjoys being active on Twitter and understands Twitter’s extensive toolset. That said, the best practices below are based on Nonprofit Tech for Good’s experience using Twitter almost daily since 2008.
Double the Donation

Letting supporters know that their donation will help feed a family of four or send a child to school for a year is more impactful than asking for a specified amount of money. When creating content, make sure you identify the action you want your reader to take and clearly communicate it (without adding several other asks!).

In 2007, I realized that a much more effective way to aggregate interesting actions would be to subscribe to RSS feeds from trusted sources. I wrote about the potential for aggregating RSS feeds of giving opportunities in a blog post called, Why We Need Group Fundraising RSS Feeds. They were talking about API’s.

I have many years of blog content. Tony Karrer suggested that the approach of aggregating the RSS feeds of blogs, adding in semantic tagging, keyword search and browsable index might help. He set up an experiment with feeds from nptech bloggers. I have a confession. To be clear Nptech Bloggers is a point of departure.
