I use the " BY Attribution " creative commons license. I've used this license. I still sometimes see rather blank expressions when I ask about turning to CC licensed resources to find photos. No, but is more likely to happen is that people will use the work, use the license honestly, and improve the work.

Nike launched the GreenXchange , and the Young Global Leaders had a humanitarian patent licensing concept that seemed promising. My main talk was at a session on commercialization of university research. So, a key action to improve this market failure problem is to be open to licensing technology to social entrepreneurs.

Universities and government labs encouraging their technology transfer offices to make social licenses of new technology. Like companies, university tech transfer offices are encouraged solely to find commercially valuable applications of inventions. We need university leaders incented to value the social applications equally.

We have been especially successful in receiving blanket agreements from major trade book publishers such as HarperCollins, Random House, Hachette, Simon & Schuster, Perseus, Scholastic, Encyclopaedia Britannica, as well as many university presses (including Cambridge U Press). . • Most publishers don’t say yes or no.

I just got back form the Economic Self-Reliance Conference at Brigham Young University in Utah. Flat World is a for-profit social enterprise that gives away its core textbooks under a creative commons license, and makes its money on ancillary products like a black and white print version for $30 (vs. I think they are onto something.
