I spent an hour after creating my avatar, Monica Hammerthall, trying to figure out what I was doing and where to go to obtain the information I was looking for. During that time I found a volunteer who gave me a few pointers on how to fly, walk, and communicate with other avatars, which can take time to get use to.

The Tech Museum of Innovation has had a personal ID "Tech Tag" system in place since 2003, available initially via RFID bracelets and currently via barcodes on the tickets. They limit engagement with interactives to a "single-player" mode, despite the fact that most people visit in groups. It's not a new problem.

We also used free services like Google Groups and Clicky. We also linked to the Google Group discussion, which added new members and triggered conversations. One possibility would have been to temporarily change our avatars to include a visual cue–like the Visible Government maple leaf–for all those officially behind the campaign.
