But, when considering helping young graduates transition to a career in nonprofit or even helping a mid-career professional make the leap from a for-profit vocation to one in the nonprofit sector, there are a few basics to keep in mind when mentoring a new nonprofit worker. Not everything translates from for-profit to nonprofit.

First, it helps with staff retention rates. Lastly, investing in PD means better-educated and more motivated employees to help reach the mission for which the organization is striving. Peer-to-peer learning models is a great way for staff to mentor each other and either learn a new skill or strengthen a previous skill.

So, let me help you set yourself up for success from the get-go. Talk to your Board and your active volunteers to find the right people to help you plan for success. Plan to sell tables as well as (or instead of) individual tickets to encourage supporters to help get people to attend. I don’t want that to happen to you!
