Encouraging nonprofits to embrace this mode of fundraising was the point of the Case Foundation’s America’s Giving Challenge , one of the first giving contests launched back in 2007 where I was a first place winner raising funds for Cambodian children. Giving Tuesday is also promoting many of the ideas in Giving 2.0

I’ve had a lot of experience with online contests, both as a participant (winner) and working two reflection papers for the Case Foundation ‘s America’s Giving Challenge. I said that I wished contest designers would take a Hippocratic Oath to do no harm to nonprofits! Designate a cheer leader.

When organizations face an unprecedented event and are in dire need of support, making an emergency fundraising appeal is a direct way to emphasize that need and raise money quickly. With this partnership, both parties received a lot of positive media attention which even led to more support in money and supplies. Bingo Night.
