There is a usefulness for a formal taxonomy or making it easy to find specific items, particularly for second wave adopters who may not be good at pattern analysis skills or people who can deal with messier data. By hard coded, I mean in the legal policies you've adopted, the features you've released and prioritized, your data taxonomies, your site map and information hierarchy. I do think that there are some discoverable values that are hard coded into any online platform. Platform values are most obvious in the TOS (see Facebook's history.)

The main correction that I offered was for nonprofits to adopt a news page format, with reverse chronological entries linking to deeper content on site and elsewhere online. As for social bookmarking, it's a great first step in the direction of emergent taxonomies. It's pretty threatening on a lot of levels.
