I'm working on a personal project (slowly) to open a cafe/bar venue that is also a design incubator for participatory exhibits. That's why I required my museum studies students to carefully document their Advice exhibition --so that the learning from that unusual project wouldn't be lost and could be applied in other places.

We had documented the activity with pictures of the people with their cards, and it was abundantly clear after the dust cleared that the personality and energy of the recommendations were in the images, not the cards. It's a shame that several of these projects are labeled as "experimental" and don't have formal evaluation built into their cheap, fast processes.

On the web, anyone can evaluate the photographs in terms of aesthetic quality and relevance to the exhibition theme. All evaluations are private; all artists are unnamed. But as Nina notes, they are doing research from this experiment about the role of independence and influence in a participatory experience.
