Use the power of a story to highlight the organization’s accomplishments I am a huge believer that board members don’t need to be subject matter experts to be good fundraisers. Board members can practice telling the story of one person helped by the organization, or the story of how they came to be on the board.

A recent comment from Ichi (working on social media for good in Japan w/ SocialCompany.org ) asked after the tools I was using on this blog to bring in comments via Twitter. Postalicious is a WordPress plugin that automatically posts your delicious, ma.gnolia, Google Reader, Reddit or Yahoo Pipes bookmarks to your blog.

The referral traffic came from Reddit. So What? The news piece that was on the top of the Reddit site was about the server outages for major online services. The comments were discussing what people did when Reddit was done. Drills down into the referral traffic – where did it come from?

Facebook , Reddit , LinkedIn , and Twitter have great options. Staff the organization’s social media accounts by monitoring follower activity (shares, likes, and comments) and ping those individuals with a way to volunteer or donate (or some other call to action). Be aware of key accomplishments, metrics, testimonials, and milestones.
