Uplifting historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) Shaw University, located in Raleigh, NC, was the first HBCU organized in the South and is the birthplace of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC). At Howard University, we used to sing the song during convocation.
