Volunteer applications can also uncover valuable skills, interests, and certifications. Keep all of this important personal information organized and in a secure database.

The current software does not interface with our current/new technical environment (MS-Exchange and Office, or Google g-mail, calendar, docs, etc.). We cannot interface with other desired applications. An inability to hire staff who know how to use or support the database in question. Stewarding current donors. Time-management.

Mail, and Google Docs are all examples of cloud-based applications, also known as software as a service (SaaS). Cloud computing, simply put, is a way for your computer to access computing power via the internet. This is great if you are planning to use a cloud system for one or two applications in your organization.

Quick definition Cloud computing is basically running applications on the web via “Software as a Service (SaaS)&#. That includes applications from Google Documents, to Salesforce.com, to Gliffy.com , (the service I used to create that graphic.) Also, you can access the applications anywhere you go.

I can migrate their Microsoft Access applications to a free Salesforce account. Now they have no need for local applications or data. They can take them anywhere they need, access all their applications and data, never worry about malware, backups, disaster recovery, etc. Nothing is lost or compromised.

At first blush, although Kintera officially got out the door first, announcing Connect weeks ago, and delivering the APIs and docs on Friday, their play is a good start, but Convio, announcing Open tomorrow, appears to be ahead in terms of providing real openness. Open has 3 components, APIs, Database Connectors, and Extensions.

One application that can store web clippings, photos, PDFs, and of course, your own notes, into tidy notebooks that are synced to the cloud and available for review and editing from the iPad, and web browser, or mobile phones. It's a miracle worker for anyone who presents a lot ot needs to update proposals, etc. Keynote/Pages/Numbers.
