International affairs nonprofits reported a 10.9% This growth was likely spurred on by the conflict in Ukraine and devastating natural disasters that impacted Turkey and Syria. After adjusting for inflation, international affairs organizations reported a 2.7% increase in donations betwen 2021 and 2022. growth in giving.

Refugees have sought asylum around the globe but primarily in the neighboring countries of Turkey, Lebanon, and Jordan. Millions are also internally displaced within Syria. Since 2011, more than 13 million Syrians have been displaced. It is one of the worst humanitarian crises of our time.

News from Turkey does offer a glimmer of hope. A September survey from Council of Foundations, Philanthropy California, and Dalberg Advisors asked about internal practices related to equity and power-sharing and found that 13 percent of foundations have increased commitments to hiring BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and people of color).
