Since this was an experiment to test social networking, I did not send an appeal to friends and family in the way people do when they raise funds for a run or walk, or want you to vote for a particular contest. I did not use any of these methods.

I celebrated with a flickr photo birthday card remix contest. I set a goal of having a resting heart rate lower than my age. My resting heart rate is 56 (fabulous according to my doctor), but I didn't meet the goal. My birthday is on Friday, January 11th. Last year for the big 5.0, Think we can do it?

Hold contests. If you already have good content on other social services such as YouTube or Flickr, you can publish that content onto your Facebook Page through the use of Facebook Apps. But Michaela's favorite Flickr app is Flickr Tab. By far, the most compelling content is anything that sparks conversation. Use quizzes.
