One of the nonprofits that inspires me locally here in Santa Cruz is a youth empowerment and food justice organization called "Food, What!?" Doron supports them. Most of these youth have bigger issues on their minds: addiction, gang violence, social anxiety, the possibility that they may not graduate from high school or get a good job.

We started about two years ago with that commercial mission in mind, and we now have 1,000 stores across the United States that have a small section, a World of Good "footprint" in their store. "We want to support anyone who is interested in engagement, but we want to help them do it in a way that is healthy for them, creates community, and creates longevity, so that everyone wins, and no one gets burnt out or sick. This challenge benefited the Cambodian Children's Fund out of Cambodia. I raised a lot of money.

Britt Bravo: In so many of the groups you profiled, the women were using the arts for education, empowerment, or healing. The children are ages 6-16, and they're making huge strides by leading a national movement against child rape in Zimbabwe. Because he is wonderfully supportive of these projects, he shares those with me.

This last fall we produce a CD called Eye of the Storm which has been an amazing project, just the creativity and the generosity of the artists who participated on this CD still blows my mind. It's an amazing act of love really in response to the hurricane and the racial neglect that occurred down on the Gulf.
