Earlier this summer, I had the huge privilege to visit Romania and help with the Local Philanthropy Workshop. It was so much fun and it was an amazing experience to work with people like Chris Worman and meet with so many local nonprofit and community changemakers. The slides are below as well as some notes.

These open challenges help activists, nonprofits, journalists, techies, and community members identify, refine, build, and launch technology tools to solve pressing local and regional problems. Worman said that the challenge platforms also promoted local champions who had actually solved a social problem.

OvidiuRo's story began in 2001, when Maria Gheorghiu and Leslie Hawke were helping poor women from the ghettos of Bacau, a small city in Romania. In Romania, the monthly child allowance, which is unconditional, is €10, so this significantly increases the amount a destitute family has for food.
