Our hearts go out to the people of Japan. Satellite phones and GPS were the major tools that helped relief workers work faster and stay connected.

In Pocket Change , author Dan Macasi points us to osaifu keitai , the Japanese phrase that means cell-phone wallet. An NFC chip -- that's near-field communications -- is placed on your existing cell phone, or is built into new phones. Another downside: when you lose you phone, you also lose your wallet.

The first release was about support for mobile phone use with software developer Code Factory of Spain. It still takes downloading the book to a PC and transferring it to the cell phone, but I'm looking forward to getting rid of that extra step! We also announced a couple of assistive technology partnerships.
