Note from Beth: We know that social media can bring in the small dollar donors, but what about larger gifts? An organization dedicated to “never again” a genocide — such as those in Europe, Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia, and Darfur — must raise awareness and advocate with as much energy as it raises money.

Your 29 gifts can be anything, "material objects, money, your time, smiles or kind thoughts." I donated to a Relief International health clinic in the Zam Zam refugee camp in Darfur that trains indigenous doctors, midwives, and community health workers. As of this writing, 128 people have joined.

M+R Strategic Services released a new study this week showing promising fundraising results for four nonprofits (Easter Seals, Human Rights Campaign, the Save Darfur Coalition, and The Wilderness Society) that tested premium offers to prospective donors. Average gift sized increased by 37%. Response rates were up 95%.

After Clinton spoke we heard from Ann Curry from NBC news who was honored for her coverage of Darfur. Unlike 99% of her news colleagues, Ann has actually gone to Darfur, and more than once. A mix of wonkish policy speak, amazing knowledge of his subjects, and compelling stories of meeting people all over the world.

So, somehow I'm stuck on the theme of toilet paper holders as gifts. I learned about it from the site Changing the Present , a donation portal that also lets you set up a wish list of causes to support in lieu of gifts for the holidays or other occassions. Stop the genocide in Darfur, that???d Big or small.it t matter???just
