Anyone can become a facilitator and host a workshop in their community, and we encourage everyone to get involved.

The people were of all ages--moms with babies strapped to their fronts, six year-olds using skillsaws, pre-teens building robots, teenagers doing homework. Part of this is practical: you can''t facilitate making and tinkering for 30 kids if you have to hand them everything they need. I know that most of your design focus is on kids.

The recent flurry of restrictions that has sent teens fleeing? I want to see more multi-person exhibits, more prompts for discussion about content, more tools to facilitate connecting wtih other visitors whose interests are similar or in some way useful to your own. Use staff and volunteers as monitors/encouragers/facilitators.

In Ireland, a children’s museum dealt with what to do about colonialism in a multi-cultural place using a theater-based exhibit format. One person commented about how he loved growing up in DC as a teen and generally using the Smithsonian as a playground. So I think the facilitation of that makes for a new museum.

It made me think in ways that I haven't before about the relation of art--as expressive culture--to democracy. It is a personality test (based on real science) in which you can determine your own love style by answering a series of questions, teen magazine-style. We spent a long time prototyping this one.
