Unless you have a very compelling project that already has a lot of interest, you might not want to invest in a Kickstarter campaign (especially since you won't be able to keep the funds you raise!). Aid Afghanistan for Education and Peace has the lofty $10,000 goal to fund a school of 300 students for a month.

Leng Sopharath, Phon Vandy, and CHom Thavy - Sharing Foundation College Students. I was able to raise $850 which helped cover the costs for her to participate in the Sharing Foundation’s college student sponsorship program and send her off to Noroton University with an accounting major in 2006.
