I’ve been volunteering for community causes since I was a kid, something my family encouraged. When I was in the third grade, I volunteered to bake cupcakes to help fundraise for Lucy the Elephant (who thankfully survived super storm Sandy ). I don’t do this with an expectation of any return–financial or otherwise.

Mission: Under the Laughs for the Troops umbrella, you will find many other great programs to help our veterans, increase awareness of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and traumatic brain injury (TBI), raise funds, and recruit volunteers. Their goal is to cut teen suicide rates in half by 2028.

As I was discussing fundraising and membership with a coworker, I realized that my emotional connection to one particular type of organization created a foundation on which I base my giving. Build a membership program specifically for children. As kids become teens, encourage them to volunteer with your organization.

Volunteer boards should take charge of fundraising. Sometimes the answer to these questions leads you to invest in new nonprofit software like a new CRM to automate donor engagement efforts or volunteer management tools to streamline volunteer scheduling. Our nonprofit shouldn’t take any risks.
