Because it was my first time meeting the students, part of the half hour was spent getting to know each other. I highly recommend volunteering with young people, whether they are as little as a kindergartner, or as old as a college student. Today, 826 has chapters in New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, Seattle, Michigan, and Boston.

Yuri Ostrovsky of ClickDiagnostics presented their very robust mobile phone applications that are being used in remote settings to connect doctors, pharmacists and other providers to do things like send images and receive diagnoses remotely, and deliver other critical health care services.

Participants included museum professionals, academics, students, and a few folks from related fields (community centers, arts management). Copy editors tended to be younger and included several students. People who copy edited had a very clear job to do, and I did not allow people to copy edit more than one chapter per week.

Betty and 6 tenth grade students co-founded the Girl Child Network. GCN is a girl's rights organization which has 350 chapters of 20,000 primary and high school members across the country. When Gianturco asked a twelve and half year old girl, Sarah Chinhire, "Of all the GCN work you are doing, what makes you proudest?"

A high school English teacher in Zimbabwe, whose name is Betty Makoni , began hearing stories from her students after school, that they had been raped. Betty and six of her high school English students founded an organization called the Girl Child Network. The women are using those forms that are the most effective in their cultures.
