One of the nonprofits that inspires me locally here in Santa Cruz is a youth empowerment and food justice organization called "Food, What!?" She wanted to create something that teens and adults could use and that was also free. The app is currently used in West Sacramento, California, which is a food desert, according to the app creators. Carrie commented that many of the existing apps that do similar services are ugly and overly complicated and look childish.

Our programs end up being the hub of the local science learning ecosystem--especially in communities where there isn''t a science center for miles in any direction.
