When we surveyed NGOs and libraries around the world this year about where they are in regard to using and needing cloud based IT services, we didn’t know how far things have gone toward cloud adoption. While a lot of NGOs are using at least one cloud-based application, deeper use of cloud tools is relatively low.

To the best of my knowledge, not a single nonprofit organization has yet raised more than $200,000 through social networking – cumulatively. While direct mail may be declining in some markets since its heyday in the 90s it is still an effective form of direct communication to raise funds and the NGO brand. Puzzling, but true.

So, yes, I think the Global NGO Technology Report found the majority of nonprofits do agree social media is effective for creating brand awareness. So I always share this cartoon from Beth Kanter’s blog, if your cat adoption numbers are tanking, it doesn’t matter if you’re going viral on YouTube. Not for me.

More and more nonprofit, library, and NGO offices worldwide will need to accommodate personally-owned tablets and smartphones on wireless networks in order to work and communicate. Barclays Bank analyst Ben Reitzes forecasts a 6 percent year-over-year decline in the sales of PCs due to increasing adoption of tablet computers and smartphones.
