Thousands of nonprofits haven’t logged into their MySpace profiles in months, or even a year or more. That said, MySpace is not dead. Traffic has definitely sloooowed, but the site still has 57 million monthly visitors in the United States ( as of December 2009 ). They want a human behind the avatar.

During 2009 I created and promoted 34 TwtPolls to help better understand the needs of nonprofits. Google has a number of partners, including social network sites like LinkedIn, Friendster and Ning, as well as Salesforce, which does have very interesting implications given the increasing use of Salesforce in the nonprofit sector. Basically, if the more social network sites that adopt OpenSocial, the more open the whole thing gets.

Just send the company your e-mail list and tell it what social networking sites those on your list are using, their demographics, the numbers of friends they have, how many widgets they’re using, even their interests. Signing up for new ones, making profiles, adding friends, adding applications, etc. MySpace, Facebook, and many other businesses have realized that they can give away the tools of production but maintain ownership over the resulting products. They own my profile, and whatever time I spend adding content. goodiness.
