On September 3, I blogged and tweeted about a story about two interesting social media fundraising opportunities in Africa. Whether you want to raise money for clean water in Ethiopia, vaccinations for children in Haiti, or a safe home for a puppy in Mississipi, with a Birthday Cause your friends can give in honor of your special day. When friends donate to the Birthday Cause , they are able to write a message that appears on my Facebook Wall.

In addition, instead of ceasing the movement, the call to action of donating has been extended to other charities as well. It is a debilitating disease with no known cure.

A community group worked hard to get her placed on the historic register and raise money to restore her to her mid-century glory. Whether I'm fundraising for Cambodia or Creative Commons , I involve my kids. Network Solutions partnered with a 12-year old Connor who was raising money for hunger by selling popcorn.

Last August, I saw the impact of Twitter's velocity first-hand with a fundraising experiment. Let's take a look at the brief history of fundraising on Twitter and lessons learned. I send updates on my progress on Twitter and noticed that everytime I twittered an update (not even a direct ask), I would receive donations.

Before I go further, I have thank everyone for the early birthday present - a donation to the Sharing Foundation. Every year I do a fundraising campaign using social media. Last year, when I turned 51, I posted a challenge on my blog - could I get 51 people to donate $10 to the Sharing Foundation? 10 friends donate $52 = $510.
