Because it was my first time meeting the students, part of the half hour was spent getting to know each other. Britt Bravo: In so many of the groups you profiled, the women were using the arts for education, empowerment, or healing. A high school English teacher in Zimbabwe, whose name is Betty Makoni , began hearing stories from her students after school, that they had been raped. And, their weapon is poetry. I just saw them as heroic.

And what I always tell the students that I work with is, number one, stay in community. You just have to keep planting and just got to hope that other people will come along after you to water those seeds and to know that the trees our for our children's children. Is it children and literature? Do not isolate.
