Basically, it allows one computer to serve several people in a lab or library at very low cost and with minimum maintenance. La Conner Regional Library was one of our test sites. It is a small, rural library that serves 5,000 people in the Skagit Valley in northern Washington State. She became the library tech person by default.

TechSoup's Refurbished Computer Initiative (RCI) has supplied more than 65,000 pieces of IT equipment to nonprofits and libraries in the last 10 years. Back in 2006, we started the RCI program to supply charities and libraries with good, low-cost warrantied computers that would stand the test of time.

Like any nonprofit, we like to take advantage of the product donations that are on offer for charities, churches, foundations, and libraries. TechSoup is a pretty big nonprofit with 200 staff people. Our monthly charges are determined by the number of licenses. We are currently using nine licenses, with more planned.
