What we do is essentially support social entrepreneurship within refugee communities. He ran into Congo. He was there for about a month, and then war in Congo was breaking out. His idea is that he wants to recreate, in reverse, the walk that he made from Sudan all the way through Congo and into Zambia. It had been bombed.

Free Rice is linked to a sister site, poverty.com, which disseminates information about world hunger and other issues. This is an interesting sort of hybrid--supporting a content site with a game that seems unrelated. These kinds of games could be a great way to publicize and support advocacy that museums are already doing.

So often, government control, or just lack of access to information and media, prevents people from really being able to be educated and informed about serious issues that are going on around them. I had an amazing opportunity to cover the civil war, but also to cover a lot of the human rights issues that were emerging as a result of the war.

It's a very creative town, very community oriented, and the energy there is very supportive. Well, first, it started for me at a young age as a young woman. I'm a complete magazine and media addict.

This is my second year as a "sister," which means that I pay $27 a month to support one woman for a year while she goes through a program to help her rebuild her life after war.
